FAQ
-
I offer developmental editing, line & copy editing, proofreading, and manuscript evaluations. I also post essays on craft that you can read for free.

Because I don’t work for anyone but myself, I’m free to approach editing with the desire to give your voice depth and strengthen your artistic vision. My benchmark is the story you had in mind when you first started writing it, not a bestseller list or an algorithm.
I also write my own fiction, which I post here in addition to my essays. I do this because if I were learning to paint, I would want to see the instructor’s paintings before hiring them.

Every worthwhile editor has a niche that they serve, and mine is dark and disturbing fiction. I mostly work within horror and weird fiction but I also work across genres like historical fiction or nonfiction books about war.
If that’s not the kind of thing you’re writing, I’m happy to point you toward reputable editors that would better suit your needs.
Additionally, I do not edit for erotica or romance, even if the work has dark tones.
I also include a 750-word free trial edit before you put down any money or sign any contract. This ensures that you have an adequate grasp of how your editing philosophies align with mine before making your decision.

Yes. Authors within the self-published horror sphere are just as respectable and worthy of editing as traditionally-published writers.

No I don’t use any AI for professional or creative purposes, nor do I use AI-adjacent products like Grammarly or ProWritingAid.
If you want to know more about my position on AI, you can read about it in my Terms of Service.
-
No, I will not.
If you submit an AI manuscript to me, the manuscript will be returned unedited and you will be charged a fee for having wasted my time.
-
Yes, I do. I’m working on compiling a list of resources that I’ll be shoving onto one page, so stay tuned for that.

Personally, I do not do any business over the phone as I prefer to keep written records of all professional interactions.
If you would like to get a feel for how I operate, I’m happy to schedule a 750-word free trial edit before you make a decision. I’m also happy to answer any questions you may have by email, which you can access through the form on my Contact page.
If you absolutely must schedule a phone call for any reason, I will deliver a written recap of that call to your email, which you will need to acknowledge as accurate. This is to protect both of us from any misunderstandings.
